B&H Photo Video
Although we usually hire a professional photographer to cover events, I have developed a fondness for taking pictures and dabble in photography when I can. One of my favorite vendors for photography equipment is B&H Photo Video – a superstore based in New York. I have only ordered from them online, but I highly recommend them.
They have everything you would need to get that perfect shot. From SLRs and accessories to studio equipment like lighting and backdrops – and even photography books.
They accept Paypal, where I accept my compensation for blogging – so it’s very convenient for me and very secure.
They ship the products you ordered on the same day – even when I placed my order after 5 PM. Wow! I can’t wait to get my package.
I am very satisfied with their service and will recommend them to my friends. So if you ever need photography supplies, you know where to go now!

Wedding Bouquet
It always helps to make a list before photographing a wedding. And don’t forget you have to take “Before the Wedding” shots of the couple. Bella Pictures in Chicago compiled this list of shots you will need to take before the wedding:
- Bride getting dressed
- Groom getting dressed
- Photo of the bouquets
- Bride with the attendants
- Groom with the attendants
- Bride arriving at the ceremony site
- Special guests getting seated at the ceremony
It would be helpful if there were at least two of you taking pictures of the wedding. If you had to choose, take pictures of the bride getting ready. It is always wise to wait until she already has her make up on to take pictures – just capture the finishing touches. Make sure there is ample natural light, direct flash does not flatter anyone. Take pictures of her with her family. Mix posed and candid shots and take a lot of pictures so you have shots to choose from. Taking shots of the wedding invitations and other trinkets that are part of the wedding will also be appreciated by the couple.

Wedding Rings
Experiment with light and play off of the bride’s gown when taking shots. Take the couples’ personality into account when taking pictures. And last, but not the least, have fun!

A very dear friend of ours is getting married on June 20 and we decided to photograph her wedding as a gift. We’ve assisted photographer friends on weddings before, but this is the first solo wedding photography job we will ever do. To prepare for it I’ve looked up several tips on photographing weddings.
One of my favorite websites for digital photography is Digital Photography School – and they have an article on 21 Tips for for Amateur Wedding Photographers that I find really helpful.
And of course studying other photographers’ work also helps. I have a couple of successful wedding photographer friends who have built their business from ground up in the last five years, Ian Limbaga based in New York and Nelwin Uy based in the Philippines – both of whom I admire a great deal. Studying their photographs give me ideas on how to compose my shots and hope for the best results.
If you have any other resources that can help us with this ambitious undertaking, please feel free to leave us a note.
