Before the Wedding Shots

It always helps to make a list before photographing a wedding. And don’t forget you have to take “Before the Wedding” shots of the couple. Bella Pictures in Chicago compiled this list of shots you will need to take before the wedding:

  • Bride getting dressed
  • Groom getting dressed
  • Photo of the bouquets
  • Bride with the attendants
  • Groom with the attendants
  • Bride arriving at the ceremony site
  • Special guests getting seated at the ceremony

It would be helpful if there were at least two of you taking pictures of the wedding. If you had to choose, take pictures of the bride getting ready. It is always wise to wait until she already has her make up on to take pictures – just capture the finishing touches. Make sure there is ample natural light, direct flash does not flatter anyone. Take pictures of her with her family. Mix posed and candid shots and take a lot of pictures so you have shots to choose from. Taking shots of the wedding invitations and other trinkets that are part of the wedding will also be appreciated by the couple.

Experiment with light and play off of the bride’s gown when taking shots. Take the couples’ personality into account when taking pictures. And last, but not the least, have fun!
